Workplace Hazardous Materials
Information System Refresher
Duration: 2-5 hours
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Refresher is a hazard communication system designed to ensure workers using hazardous materials, also known as controlled products, have the necessary information to safely handle, store and dispose of these materials.
WHMIS Refresher is designed to refresh the knowledge of workers that have taken WHMIS training in the past and already have a solid understanding of the course material.
This course meets the legislated worker training requirements for all federal workplaces and for provincial workplaces in all provinces and territories.
Who Should Take the Course?
All workers that work with, or in close proximity to, a hazardous material must have WHMIS training.
The course reviews the knowledge participants must have in order to access and apply the information needed to protect their health and safety when working with, or in proximity to, WHMIS controlled products.
This course is presented in 6 modules:
1. An Introduction to WHMIS
2. Product Labels
3. Hazard Symbols
4. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
5. Responsibility for WHMIS Training
6. More Information About WHMIS
At the end of each module, there is a test. Participants must successfully complete the test before continuing to the next module. Participants that do not achieve 100% can review the module content and try as many times as necessary to advance and complete the course. Test questions are randomly selected from a test bank, making each test unique
Upon successful completion of all modules, participants can download/print a Certificate of Completion
Employers must supplement this training with workplace specific training to ensure that workers are aware of and understand the hazards associated with the controlled products that they use and know how to work safely with those products.
